CuTheme Update: 7 Key Changes for Content Editors (New Media Library)

Are you excited about our new cuTheme yet?

If not, you should be! And here’s why.

There are seven new features that you’ll be able to use in the new cuTheme, and we’re rolling out a seven-series blog post to keep you informed about the changes you should keep on your radar.

Today, we’re covering number three out of seven: New media library options.

Post 3/7: Media Library

One of the biggest changes you’re going to notice in your new media library is the option to upload hosted images to your site.

What’s a hosted image?

Hosted images are images that our team has curated and uploaded to a large database that everyone can access and share.

You can choose from a number of photos that we have uploaded into the database, and you can also search for images using key-words.

Each image comes with a pre-set alt tag that we’ve already written for you. But, you’ll also find it easy to edit and change the alt tag to suit your own needs.

Why are alt tags important?

Alt tags make your photos accessible for visually impaired peoples. Screen readers can detect alt text, and read aloud a description of photos for people who may not be able to see them.

It is important for all photos to have alt text so that they comply with accessibility standards. That’s why we’ve taken care of it for you. Now you can just focus on making your site look awesome!

What’s staying the same?

Mainly, everything else in your media library will stay the same.

For example, you will still be able to upload photos from your device, and once you’ve uploaded something to your site it will stay in your personal media library.

So basically, you will have three options when it comes to including photos on your site:

  1. Uploading images from your computer
  2. Choosing photos that already exist within your media library
  3. Selecting one of our hosted images

Overall, these updates in the new cuTheme will make it easier for you to create a beautiful website with striking (and accessible!) images.
