Fostering Student Success – An Introduction to Motivational InterviewingJon Lee

The Centre for Initiatives in Education invites you to join Professor Jonathan Lee from the University of Cincinnati to learn about the role that Motivational Interviewing (MI) can play within higher education.

Traditionally, practitioners use MI to attend to the values and motivations of individuals who are considering behavioural change. These conversations work to increase expressed importance and strengthen the confidence with which individuals approach positive behaviour change.

More recently, researchers, including Dr. Lee, have applied MI to the educational context. In post-secondary education, advisors, academic coaches, peer educators, and faculty can use MI to help uncover the values and motivations of students as they work to develop the habits and skills required for academic success.

This two hour seminar with Dr. Lee will make the case for MI in higher education, and here at Carleton. Join us to learn how you can employ these techniques to foster student success. All faculty, staff and students are welcome to attend, please register here.
