EHS Programs: Keeping Carleton Safe
Operational Health & Safety
Employee and student health, safety, and wellness is a top priority at Carleton University. Operational Health & Safety encompasses aspects of safety that affect everyone, regardless of specific work duties.
Working in a Lab
The best way to push the limits of science, is safely. Laboratories are home to chemicals, lasers, radiation, and other hazards, that students and researchers must manage safely. Environmental Health & Safely works closely with departments across campus to ensure that our ravens are practicing safe science.
Working in a Workshop
Numerous workshops are found within Carleton’s Faculty of Engineering and Design as well as within Facilities Management & Planning. These hands-on work areas contain unique hazards such as dust, noise, equipment, and hot work.
Health and Safety for Management
All persons in the workplace share the responsibility for ensuring a safe working environment. Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the university as an employer, and supervisors, must take every precaution reasonable under the circumstances for the protection of their workers.
Fire Prevention and Safety
Carleton’s fire safety program is within the Emergency Management and Continuity of Operations in the Office of Risk Management.
