Through ACT, students can receive ongoing, accessible, individualized support at any point of the employment process. Our goal is to equip students with the tools, resources, and skills to successfully navigate employment while offering a trusted space to discuss disability and work.
Advising Support
Scheduled appointments only
Length: Approximately 50 minutes
Mode: In-person, virtual, phone
Common topics include:
- Exploring what you can do with your degree
- Job search and networking strategies
- Resume and cover letter development
- Crafting job applications
- Strategizing and planning for employment and further education
- Interview preparation
- LinkedIn guidance
- Workplace accommodations and disclosure
- Disability‑related considerations in employment
- Navigate the school‑to‑work transition
Counselling Support
Scheduled appointments only
Length: Approximately 50 minutes
Mode: Virtual, phone
Common topics include:
- Navigating anxiety and fears related to job search or the workplace
- Addressing stigma, bias, misconceptions, and attitudinal barriers
- Managing disability‑related challenges at work
- Processing past traumatic or negative workplace experiences
- Unpacking the complexity at the intersection of disability and employment from an integrative counselling lens
Group Support
InterACT (Peer Discussion Group)
Scheduled group sessions
Length: Approximately 60 minutes
Mode: Virtual
- An opportunity for students to discuss work and disability with peers encountering similar career experiences
- Builds community, validation, and real‑time problem solving
- Common topics include work-related anxiety, confidence, imposter syndrome, employment barriers, networking, ableism, accommodation, and disclosure
- Offered biweekly
Work with Me (Virtual Working Group)
Scheduled drop-ins
Length: Approximately 120 minutes
Mode: Virtual
- Structured, supervised, quiet environment to complete employment tasks
- Promotes time management, self‑discipline, and balancing school, work, and personal commitments
- Offered twice weekly
