Strategic planning
The Vice-Provost plays a lead role in facilitating the implementation and monitoring of Carleton’s strategic and academic plans. This includes coordination and oversight of the development and implementation of academic plans for Faculties, the Library, Student Support Services, and Teaching and Learning, as well as leading strategic initiatives for the Office of the Provost and Vice-President (Academic).
Quality assurance
The Vice-Provost has oversight of the academic quality assurance processes of the University and is Carleton’s liaison with the Ontario Universities’ Council on Quality Assurance. The Office works closely with academic units in preparing proposals for new academic programs and modifications to existing programs, as well as supporting the cyclical review of academic program. The Office is further responsible for the monitoring and reporting of actions and recommendations arising from the quality assurance process.
Program-Level Learning Outcomes Assessment
A primary focus for the Office, in both strategic initiatives and quality assurance, is the development and assessment of learning outcomes at the program level. The Office is leading a sustainable, faculty and student driven learning outcomes assessment initiative with the intent of fostering a learner-centred, outcomes-based education model at Carleton.
In support of these broad and interconnected activities, the Office is engaged in a number of institutional initiatives and works closely with senior executive, faculty, staff and students across campus.
