Application and Document Submission

Fall and Winter Term Application (two terms)

Students who are registering for BOTH the fall and winter terms of the academic year, who are seeking financial aid from OSAP for both terms, should be aware of the following key application dates and deadlines. Most students fall into this category.

  • June 30Recommended date to submit your online OSAP application and all required supporting documents on or before this date to best ensure you receive your funds at the beginning of the fall term.
  • February 25 – Deadline to submit your online application for the September—April study period.
  • March 17 – Deadline to submit ALL supporting documentation for your OSAP application. This includes student, parental and/or spousal signature pages, and Master Student Financial Aid Agreement(MSFAA), if applicable. Also deadline to submit an OSAP entitlement appeal and the documentation required to support it.

Fall Term-Only Application

Students who are registering for ONLY the Fall Term (September—December) and who are seeking financial aid through OSAP should be aware of the following key application dates and deadlines. Many students with only a few courses left to complete in their degree fall into this category.

  • June 30Recommended date to submit your online OSAP application and all required supporting documents on or before this date to best ensure you receive your funds at the beginning of the Fall Term.
  • October 22 – Deadline to submit your online application for the September—December study period.
  • November 11 – Deadline to submit ALL supporting documentation for your OSAP application. This includes student, parental and/or spousal signature pages, and Master Student Financial Aid Agreement(MSFAA), if applicable. Also, deadline to submit an OSAP entitlement appeal and the documentation required to support it.

Winter Term-Only Application

Students who are registering for ONLY the Winter Term (January—April) and who are seeking financial aid through OSAP should be aware of the following key application dates and deadlines.

  • October 31Recommended date to submit your online OSAP application and all required supporting documents on or before this date to best ensure you receive your funds at the beginning of the Winter Term.
  • February 25 – Deadline to submit your online application for the January—April study period.
  • March 17 – Deadline to submit ALL supporting documentation for your OSAP application. This includes student, parental and/or spousal signature pages, and Master Student Financial Aid Agreement(MSFAA), if applicable. AND – Deadline to submit an OSAP entitlement appeal and the documentation required to support it.

Monitor Your Application

Note: Applications can be monitored on ontario.ca/osap. Be sure to check your OSAP Message Centre and Carleton email account regularly for important messages regarding your application.

Fall Term

  • Late August – The Awards Office begins assessing applications for completeness and confirming enrolment for the Fall Term.

Winter Term

  • Mid December – The Awards Office begins confirming enrolment for the Winter Term.

Receive Your Funds

Fall Term

  • September 4 – Once your enrolment is confirmed the National Student Loan Service Centre begins to electronically release OSAP first installments (typically 60% of your entitlement for Fall and Winter Term applications, 100% for Fall Term-only applications).

Winter Term

  • January 6 – Once your enrolment is confirmed the National Student Loan Service Centre begins to electronically release OSAP second installments (typically 40% of your entitlement for Fall and Winter Term applications, 100% for Winter Term-only applications).

Report Changes

Notify the Awards Office immediately if:

  • You reduce your course load
  • You change your program of study
  • You withdraw from your program
  • You need to report a change in your, or your family’s, financial information
  • You change your marital status
  • You decide to attend a different post-secondary institution
  • You do not want your student loan funding
