Information for Students with Disabilities

In addition to institutional scholarships and bursaries, students with a disability may be eligible for additional funding to assist with their unique educational costs.

Government Assistance Programs

Students with a disability may be eligible for provincial and federal government loan/grant funding with reduced course load requirements. To be considered eligible for full time funding through government assistance programs, students with disabilities are required to be registered in 40% (1.0 credit per term) of a full course load, versus the typical 60% (1.5 credit per term) requirement. Government Grant/Bursary Programs

1. Bursary for Students with Disabilities (BSWD) / Canada Student Grant for Services and Equipment for Persons with Permanent Disabilities (CSG-PDSE)

• A bursary designed for students with disabilities who have disability-related educational costs for services or equipment
• To be considered eligible for this program, students must meet the following requirements;
  • Apply, and be considered eligible for a government assistance program
  • Be enrolled in a designated postsecondary institution
  • Have a permanent or temporary disability
  • Have disability-related educational costs

2. Canada Student Grant for Persons with Permanent Disabilities

• A grant which assists students, who have self-identified as having a permanent disability, with their educational costs
• To be considered eligible, students must apply for, and be approved for full or part time government student aid
