The Canadian Lung Cancer Screening Initiative (CLCSI: alcsi.org) is looking for students interested in starting a Carleton chapter dedicated to lung cancer screening advocacy!

The CLCSI is a volunteer community of physicians, medical students, and undergraduate students who are using their voices to spread awareness of lung cancer screening. The training and mentorship comes from physicians and lung cancer researchers.

CLCSI student leaders will be the voice of lung cancer screening in the communities. The student teams:

  • Work with Mayors, local health organizations, physicians and patient advocates
  • Gain valuable communication and professional skills interacting with health professionals and future recipients of screening
  • Help increase health literacy and awareness of screening through research dissemination and direct interaction with high-risk individuals in the community

Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer death in Canada and the world, causing more deaths than breast, prostate, and colon cancers combined. While early detection through lung cancer screening by low-dose computed tomography (CT) significantly reduces lung cancer mortality, awareness is a huge problem and most eligible individuals do not know this screening exists.
