Jacky Chan

Undergraduate Student

Jacky Chan is a fourth‑year Public Affairs and Policy Management student at Carleton University and a dedicated student leader committed to strengthening student representation, as well as advancing inclusivity within Carleton and the wider community. He brings extensive experience in Carleton’s governance landscape, having previously served as an Undergraduate Student Senator, an Executive on the Rideau River Residence Association, and an ex‑officio member of the Carleton Academic Student Government.

Jacky has also worked as a Communications and Administrative Assistant in Carleton’s Secretariat University Governance, providing him with experience with both academic and administrative governance. His contributions to two Senate committees allowed him to advocate for improvements to scholarship accessibility and engage in substantive policy discussions that shape the student experience at Carleton.

Beyond campus, Jacky has held multiple roles in the federal public service, contributing to strategic communications, digital content, and policy‑related initiatives at the National Capital Commission, the Department of National Defence, and the Senate of Canada. These experiences have deepened his interest in public service, corporate social responsibility, and the role of governance in building accountable and effective institutions.

Jacky is also an active volunteer; his roles include serving as the first Youth Ambassador for the Ottawa Chinese Community Services Centre and as a member of the RCMP National Youth Advisory Committee.

As an Undergraduate Governor, Jacky aims to serve as a liaison between students and university leadership, working to promote student perspectives in policymaking, budgeting, and long‑term planning.

Jacky has been appointed to the Board of Governors for a one‑year term commencing July 1, 2026, and ending June 30, 2027.
