Bachelor of Humanities
B. Hum Graduate 2013
What was your experience like in the program and how has your degree helped your career?
I completed a Bachelor of Humanities alongside a Minor in Indigenous Studies, where I developed a strong foundation in interdisciplinary thinking and a lasting interest in how knowledge systems shape societies.
After graduating, I went on to complete a Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University and an MPhil at the University of Cambridge. Since then, I have built an international career across education, diplomacy, and public policy that spans the UK, Canada, NZ, and the USA.
Roles have included serving as a Trade Commissioner with the High Commission of Canada in the UK and as the political influencing lead in a UK third sector organisation. Most recently, I was a senior advisor at New Zealand’s Tertiary Education Commission, contributing to the design and implementation of vocational education reform.
I am currently travelling around the world ahead of pursuing doctoral study. In many ways, this experience feels like a continuation of my humanities education: encountering, in lived form, the histories, philosophies, and cultures I first studied in the classroom.
Looking back, the College of the Humanities shaped not only what I learned, but how I think. It equipped me to move fluidly across disciplines, sectors, and cultural contexts, whilst drawing connections, engaging critically with complexity, and communicating effectively with a wide range of audiences.
Combining my Humanities studies with Indigenous perspectives, I developed a values-based approach to my work that continues to shape how I engage with policy, systems, and social change today.
