What was your experience like in the program?
I had an incredible experience at the College. I loved the sense of community in our cohort. While I was not always the strongest student I bought into the program’s culture completely. I loved my classmates, the curriculum, the events, the professors, the admin staff, and the physical space of the College. It was a unique and transformative experience that I still actively promote today.
How has your B.Hum degree helped your career?
My strengths have always been in communication and connection, however these were very much raw talents when I entered the B. Hum program in 2009. Four years in the program allowed me to hone my skills by engaging with the content, my classmates, and the professors. I graduated from the program with a far greater ability to articulate my thoughts verbally and in writing. This is the strength of the Humanities program: the content is an engaging vehicle through which core skills are activated.
These skills are essential across every industry, however working in Admissions at an independent school aligns perfectly with them. On any given day, I will alternate between recruitment and stewardship opportunities, and incredibly difficult conversations with families. I engage with families both locally and internationally, travelling all over to introduce educational opportunities to potential students. My time in the Bachelor of Humanities program nurtured my ability to think on my feet, engage in open dialogues, and approach contexts with curiousity and open-mindedness. I believe these skills and foundational elements, honed in the program, have advanced my career more quickly.
Finally, some of the relationships I built while earning my B. Hum have become essential supports as I navigated career, family, and life in general.
