B.Hum Graduate 2001

What was your experience like in the program and how has your degree helped your career?

The B.Hum program felt both like coming home and shooting out into outer space.  I felt connected immediately to the other students based on our shared love of learning and seeking.  I didn’t feel like an outsider just because I wanted to know and understand everything.  It also felt like my mind was being expanded on a daily basis.  It was an incredible learning experience that I don’t think I would have found in any other program.

My degree has made me a flexible and fast thinker. High School students are curious about so many things, and being able to challenge their thinking in a kind and constructive way has forged strong relationships and fostered critical thinking in a population that is stereotyped as self obsessed and unengaged.

This degree also engaged my curiosity so I’ve continued to grow and learn with my students. I’ve been described as having a very hungry brain and I credit that curiosity to all the engagement and conversation encouraged in the Humanities.
