What was your experience like in the program?

Amazing. I loved spending time in the lounge debating with my peers about different interpretations of the Odyssey, or Dante’s Divine Comedy. I loved sitting in class and listening to Prof Macisaac’s morning music. I loved discussion groups with profs , where we all collaborated , occasionally disagreed, but always respected each other! I miss the atmosphere of everyone loving learning, loving gaining knowledge, and loving hearing different perspectives. It’s a time I hold dear to me

How has your B.Hum degree helped your career?

Law is all about reading dense texts, analyzing them and then coming up with an argument ! Thats what we learned to do in first year HUMS! When I entered law school I was more prepared to do this than many of my peers. In my second year I participated in the Clara Barton International Humanitarian Law Competition, and myself and my team won best written factum — something I’m very proud of but I also credit to my time in HUMS. In my articling term, I’ve been noted as having strong writing and analysis skills. The discussions and debates also helped prepare me to mediate and litigate as a law student and now an articling student, as I am good at listening and dissecting what the opposing counsel says, and coming up with my own arguments. I owe HUMS a lot and I’d love to give back by helping current HUMS students with getting into law school and answering questions about my time as an in house articling student !
