What was your experience like in the program and how has your degree helped your career?

I applied to the Journalism and Humanities program to gain the storytelling skills and analytical thinking of those I looked up to in the broadcasting field. Through the humanities, I developed skills that set me apart in the working field.

During my time as a student, I was learning more than just the content outlined in the syllabus each year. I was also learning how to do in-depth research, analyze and ask questions. Being in journalism and humanities allowed me to broaden my skill set and knowledge, encouraging me to learn and try new things. Every skill learned gave me more opportunities to explore different fields in the years after school, as I worked on journalism and podcasting projects, and in communications and marketing roles.

Another lesson learned during my time in the humanities is the ability to accept help and learn from it. Not just from my professor’s feedback and guidance, but also from my peers. Everyone in the humanities community wants to see you thrive, and that community and support doesn’t end after convocation!
