Master of Cognitive Science Program – Specialization in Data Science

For more information, consult the Graduate calendar. More specific questions can be directed to the Graduate Supervisor.

Carleton University’s Master’s in Cognitive Science with a specialization in Data Science trains students to study mind and intelligent behavior using the tools of modern computation and analytics.

What is Cognitive Science?

Cognitive Science is the interdisciplinary study of how minds perceive, learn, remember, reason, communicate, and make decisions, drawing on psychology, neuroscience, linguistics, philosophy, and computer science.

Data science is the practice of extracting reliable insights from complex data using statistical modeling, machine learning, and rigorous data management and visualization. In this degree, the two fit together naturally: students learn to ask theoretically grounded questions about cognition and behavior, then answer them with data-driven methods—analyzing experimental, behavioral, and real-world datasets to build models of cognitive processes and to develop applied solutions in areas like human-centered AI, user behavior, and decision-making.
