News 20241015 - Dr. Jie Gao Received the IEEE Best Land Transportation Paper Award

Dr. Jie Gao, an assistant Professor at Carleton School of Information Technology, received the IEEE Best Land Transportation Paper Award alongside his coauthors for the paper “Energy-Efficient UAV-Assisted Mobile Edge Computing: Resource Allocation and Trajectory Optimization,” in IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, Vol. 69, No. 3, pp. 3424-3438, February 2020. The award recognizes authors of papers relating to Land Transportation published in the VTS Transactions during the 5 years preceding the award. The award was presented by Prof. Gordon Stüber, Awards Committee Chair and Elected BoG member of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, on October 9 during the award luncheon at the 100th IEEE Vehicular Technology Conference (VTC2024-Fall) in Washington DC.

The winning paper proposed a novel approach to joint resource allocation and trajectory design for energy-efficient unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-assisted mobile edge computing (MEC). The proposed approach can facilitate applications such as autonomous driving and meet the increasing computing needs, especially in environments where access to ground infrastructure is nonexistent or limited. Since its publication, the paper has been cited by over 400 other works, according to Google Scholar, underscoring its impact in the field.
