IMD Students Creating a Multi-Sensory Horror Experience with VR
August 23, 2024

A group of IMD students (Danielle Cole, Mackenzie Darling, Ryan Clement, Dexter Hunter Laroche, Samuelle Lamoureux, and Brendan O’Malley), under the supervision of Dr. Lesley Istead, were chosen to present their capstone project at the poster session of ACM SIGGRAPH-2024 Conference in Denver, USA (https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/3641234.3671074). The project was titled “Creating a Multi-Sensory Horror Experience with VR” and was received enthusiastically at the conference, one of the largest and most prestigious ones in the fields of computer graphics, animation, and interactive systems. “Death Row” is an immersive VR horror exhibit using a combination of VR technology and real world props and costumes. The experience consisted of three short stories with each focusing on a different sense to create fear and discomfort: hearing, sight, and touch.
