Dr. David Thue

Assistant Professor, IMD Coordinator

David Thue is an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Technology at Carleton University. He leads the RISE research group (Reasoning for Interactive Systems and Experiences), which develops, applies, and studies Artificial Intelligence techniques toward improving user experiences. His work has applications in health, games, creative writing, and citizen science. He serves on the board of directors of the Association for Research in Interactive Digital Narratives (ARDIN) as well as the steering committee of the International Conference on Interactive Digital Storytelling (ICIDS). He has organized numerous events related to AI and narrative technologies, including AIIDE 2020 (Program Chair), ICIDS 2014 (Program Co-Chair), ICIDS 2011 (General Co-Chair), and several related workshops. From 2013 to 2019, he was an Assistant Professor of Computer Science and the Industry Chair of Game Design at Reykjavik University, Iceland, where he led their Emphasis Line in Computer Game Design and Development. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Alberta in 2015, with a focus on AI systems that can manage interactive experiences.
