Dr. Jie Gao

Assistant Professor

Jie Gao received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada, in 2009 and 2014, respectively. Before joining Carleton University, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow, a research associate, and an assistant professor with Toronto Metropolitan University, the University of Waterloo, and Marquette University (US), respectively. His research interests include beyond 5G (B5G) and 6G networks, machine learning for communications and networking, Internet of Things (IoT) and Industrial IoT, network virtualization and digital twins, Artificial Intelligence (AI) for network security, and satellite and UAV networking. Jie is a recipient of the IEEE OJVT Best Paper Award (2025), an IEEE Outstanding Service Award (2024), an IEEE OJCOMS Best Editor Award (2024), the IEEE Best Land Transportation Paper Award (2024), and the Early-Stage Investigator Grant Award of Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium (2021).
