Dr. Marzieh Amini

Assistant Professor, OSS Coordinator

Marzieh Amini is an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Technology, cross-appointed to the Department of Systems and Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering & Design at Carleton University. Her research interests include computer vision, remote sensing, autonomous vehicle, sensor fusion and biomedical signal processing. She has been awarded several grants and industrial research contracts supporting her research, including NSERC Discovery Grant, MitACS Accelerate Program, NRC Transportation Program, and several research contracts with Natural resource of Canada (NRCan). She is Associate Editor in Journal Circuits, Systems and Signal Processing since May 2022 and Associate Editor in Journal Franklin Open, Elsevier since June 2022. She is also review editor for Frontiers in Computer Vision since Nov. 2021. She is the Vice Chair of Women in Engineering in the IEEE Consumer Electronic Society. She is the Chair IEEE Ottawa Industry Relations Committee. She is a Professional Engineer licensed in Ontario, Canada. She was the chair of IEEE Montreal Industry Relations Committee, organizing the well-known IEEE Research Boost events between 2021-2022. Before joining Carleton University, Dr. Amini was a data scientist in BlueCity.ai worked on development of automatic traffic monitoring using 3D LiDAR sensors. She was a postdoctoral fellow at Visual Motor Research Lab in McGill Center for Intelligent Machines (CIM) and a lecturer at Electrical and Computer Engineering department of McGill University between 2018 to 2020. She was ranked first in the Nature and Technology category to receive an FRQNT postdoctoral fellowship in 2018. She served as a red judge in the final round of IBM Watson AI XPRIZE. Dr. Amini’s awards and honors include: She received Volunteer Recognition Award by IEEE Montreal Section in 2022 and 2019. She was ranked first in the Nature and Technology category to receive an FRQNT postdoctoral fellowship in 2018. Her PhD thesis was nominated for 2017 Valedictorian Award, 2017 CAGS/UMI Distinguished Dissertation Award at Concordia University, and 2017 Prix d’excellence l’Association des doyens des etudes superieures au Quebec (ADESAQ).
