Dr. Masoud Barati

Assistant Professor

Masoud Barati received a PhD degree in Computer Science from Sherbrooke University, Canada, in May 2018. His PhD research project focused on developing a framework for composing dynamic software components in an automatic way. The framework permitted the realization of a new behavior from a set of available behaviors through the synthesis of a controller that delegates each action of the new behavior to an available behavior for execution. Masoud was a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the School of Computer Science and Informatics at Cardiff University, UK [Nov 2018–Mar 2021]. His postdoctoral research concentrated on designing a blockchain-based platform for improving data privacy and security in cloud and IoT ecosystems. Before joining the School of Information Technology at Carleton University, he was an Assistant Professor with the School of Computing at Newcastle University, UK, until February 2023. His research interests include distributed systems, cybersecurity, blockchain and smart contracts, formal methods and verification, semantics and ontology, and service discovery and composition.
