Official documents (transcripts, test scores) will be only required if you are accepted into our program.

Thesis-based applications (MASc and PhD)

Thesis‑based applicants are encouraged to secure a supervisor at the time of application, as this typically strengthens the application and may increase the likelihood of admission. Applicants who have not yet secured a supervisor should identify potential supervisor(s) whose research interests align with their proposed area of study.

Once your application is complete, your application package will be reviewed by the selected faculty member(s).

Please be sure to indicate your funding situation when contacting faculty members: i.e., whether you will require funding, partial funding, or whether you are self-funded. Please also indicate your research area interest and experience, and ensure that your experience aligns with the research interests of the faculty member to whom you are applying.

Course-based applications (MNET)

Only applicants who have an undergraduate degree in a related field are eligible for admission. Applicants holding degrees from institutions outside Canada must satisfy the minimum admission requirements. Please see the Carleton list of countries and minimum admission requirements.

For admission into Carleton’s graduate programs, you will need to demonstrate that your knowledge and use of the English language are strong enough to successfully complete graduate studies at an English-language university.

For a listing of our minimum English-language requirements, please visit our website at: graduate.carleton.ca/international. No exceptions will be made.
