Neil Hauer

Neil Hauer is a Canadian journalist and analyst specializing in the Caucasus, Russia, and Ukraine. From 2014 to 2017, he served as a Senior Intelligence Analyst at The SecDev Group. His primary focus encompasses Chechnya, regional political violence, and the Syrian conflict, particularly Russia’s involvement. His articles have appeared in prominent publications, including CNN, The Guardian, and Foreign Policy. Hauer has consulted on security, governance, and radicalization for organizations like the European Union and the OSCE. He holds an MA in Russian and Eurasian Studies from Carleton University and studied at Saint Petersburg State University. Based in Yerevan, Armenia, he frequently travels throughout the former Soviet Union.
