The Nordic-Baltic Security Nexus. Implications for Canada
Tuesday, November 10, 2026 from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm

- Hybrid event
- 2017, Dunton Tower, Carleton University
- 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, ON, K1S 5B6
The Eastern Europe and Transatlantic Network (EETN) and the North American and Arctic Defence and Security Network (NAADSN) are pleased to present a full-day roundtable on security, resilience, and regional cooperation in the Nordic-Baltic states.
The roundtable brings together scholars, policy experts, and practitioners from Canada and the Baltic region to discuss NATO’s eastern flank, hybrid threats, and Canada’s role in Baltic security. Over the course of the day, panelists will share research and on-the-ground perspectives on the challenges facing the region and the opportunities for transatlantic collaboration.
About the conference
The Nordic and Baltic regions have become central to NATO’s defence and deterrence, as hybrid and “grey-zone” threats reshape European security. Canada is deeply engaged there: it leads NATO’s Multinational Brigade Latvia, contributes over 3,000 Canadian Armed Forces members to Operation REASSURANCE, and is a Co-Framework Nation for Multinational Division-North.
This conference brings together scholars, practitioners, and emerging researchers from Canada and Northern Europe to ask:
- What lessons can Canada draw from its engagements in Ukraine, Eastern and Northern Europe, and the Arctic?
- Where could Canada pursue leadership and collaboration with non-Arctic states in the region?
- Beyond NATO, what role can other multilateral fora play in Nordic and Baltic security?
