Yuliya Brin
Yuliya Brin is a doctoral researcher at the University of Helsinki and was a member of the EETN’s 2026 mentorship program. She published “Women, Peace and Security in Ukraine: Addressing Conflict-Related Sexual Violence and Advancing EU Integration” as part of the program. Yuliya kindly shared her perspective on the mentorship program and highlighted the benefit that her participation had on her academic and professional development.
Can you tell me a little bit about your experience in the mentorship program?
The mentorship program was great. I got really good feedback and comments from the editors which really enhanced my piece.
What was the process of working with your mentor like? How did your relationship aid in the drafting of your policy memo?
The editors and mentors provided valuable comments and sources to look into to enhance my memo. All the conversations were nice and helpful and aided in creating the optimal memo.
How important was the mentorship program to you and your development as a young scholar?
I enjoyed the comments and feedback exchange. It didn´t feel as daunting and negative as usual reviewers for journals.
What would you like future generations of young scholars enrolled in the mentorship program to know?
Stay open to comments and use the comments and sources to your advantage it will greatly level up your work.
