Adjusting Your Workstation
This page helps you set up a safe, comfortable computer workstation and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries. It includes general tips, instructions for accessing the Office Ergonomics training in Brightspace, and tools to help you adjust and assess your workstation.
General Tips
- Choose an ergonomically adjustable chair that is comfortable for you.
- Position the top of your screen at or just below eye level, about an arm’s length away.
- Keep the keyboard and mouse within a forearm’s length and make sure the mouse stays within shoulder width.
- Rest your eyes by focusing on an object at least 6 meters (20 feet) away.
- Take short standing or stretch breaks every 30-60 minutes.
Training
The Office Ergonomics Training is intended to provide a practical introduction to office ergonomics and have you follow along with step-by-step instructions to properly setup your computer workstation. Although not mandatory, all employees are encouraged to take this course and adjust their workstation to reduce or eliminate musculoskeletal injuries.
How do I access this training?
- Visit Brightspace
- Sign in using your MC1 credentials.
- Search for the training using the term “EHS: Office Ergonomics” through the Discover link in the navigation bar and self-register by following the on-screen instructions.
