As a Program Analyst for Health Canada, I continuously witness the power of effective writing as a tool for public benefit. In this role, I rely daily on the ability to examine critical issues, identify solutions which are informed by different perspectives, and communicate effectively. I cannot overstate the value of my literary studies at Carleton in helping me to develop these skills.
At Carleton, I had the great privilege of learning from fantastic professors and peers, and found this especially to be the case within the M.A. English program, where smaller class sizes allowed for deep engagement with the topics at hand and a supportive, collaborative environment.
I also appreciated the broad range of courses and flexibility of choice offered by the English Department. From postcolonial diaspora narratives to literary modernism’s engagement with twentieth-century science, the rich and challenging curriculum allowed my intellectual interests to roam free, helping me to better identify the areas I am most passionate about. This led me to find personally meaningful work in the federal-regulatory and science-policy space.
