Vanessa Ippolito

I’m currently balancing a few things. I’ve just ended an 8 ½ year career with Indigo, and I’ve been an Associate Technical Writer since the fall of 2023. I will soon be interning at Nokia to pursue technical writing. I also do volunteer communications work for a creative collective.

Everything I’ve pursued post-grad has been thanks to Carleton. I actually found my current technical-writing job through the job board at Career Services at Carleton. My education has been a great asset since it was so writing focused. Many people believe that teaching is the only viable career option when you hold an English degree, but little do they know that it is a discipline that lends itself wonderfully to many fields.

How has your Carleton English degree informed your professional and/or creative path?

The English program at Carleton offered so many courses that allowed me to broaden my skillset. Essay-writing, creative-writing, book-arts, and publishing courses all led me to where I am today.

Why Carleton? What specific experiences or opportunities did you benefit from while studying English at Carleton?

The community of people at Carleton has to be the best in Canada. The professors were always so supportive and accommodating to me. I could tell that they truly cared about the success of their students.
