Welcome to Carleton University, Ravens! This page is intended for International and Exchange students attending Carleton University in the Fall who will be participating in the Fall Orientation program. On this page we will outline all the events geared specifically towards International and Exchange students. If you want to learn more about the Student Experience Office, please visit our website.

International Student Hang-Out

This is an event organized be the International Student Services Office (ISSO). Come hang out and get to know other new international and exchange students as well as the ISSO volunteers. There will be games, music, and lots of time to relax and socialize with new peers!

Date: Thursday, August 29th
Time: 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Location: 282 University Centre


Welcome Event

This event is the perfect place for you to learn about the services and opportunities available at Carleton University. Parents and guests are encouraged to attend the event as well. Registration for this event is required and is now closed.

Date: Friday, August 30th
Time: 1:00pm – 3:00pm
Location: Health and Science Building Lobby


International Connections

Carleton University has a variety of cultural clubs and services available for students, and we were able to bring some of them together for you! At this meet and greet event, new international and exchange students can connect with upper year students that are involved on campus. It is an amazing opportunity to familiarize yourself with the services you may use throughout your time at Carleton and get involved! Students do not need to bring anything to this event. Light refreshments will be provided.

Warm Walmart Welcome

It’s time to go shopping! Students will have the opportunity to go to Walmart at Billings Bridge Shopping Centre to buy any bedroom, hygiene and academic items. There will be volunteers to help students find what they need.

Date: Saturday, August 31st
Time: 10:00am – 12:00pm
Location: Students will meet at Fenn Lounge in Residence Commons (2nd floor) and take the bus together. Please have cash in hand ($3.50) to pay for the bus fare.

Time: 1:00pm — 3:00pm
Where: Students will meet at Fenn Lounge in Residence Commons (2nd floor) and take the bus together.

    • Billings Bridge to Campus
      • 104 bus to Carleton
      • Bus leaves from “Billings Bridge 1A” stop
      • Get off at the last stop (Carleton)

Sound and Light Show on Parliament Hill

Students will be taken to watch the Northern Lights, an impressive multimedia show set against the backdrop of the iconic Parliament Buildings that tells Canada’s history. To participate in this event, please email isso@carleton.ca to register.

Location: Students will meet in front of the Reception Desk in Residence Commons and bus together. Please bring some cash ($3.50) to pay for the bus fare.


HOLAS Salsa and Bachata lessons

The Humanitarian Organization for Latin American Students, known as HOLAS, is one of the 300+ clubs that Carleton has to offer. During the “CU @ Night” event happening at Fall Orientation, HOLAS will be organizing salsa and bachata lessons, two dances popular in Latin America. Students from all backgrounds are welcome to participate and learn some new dance moves. Let’s get dancing!

Like a Local Ottawa Tour

It’s time to get to know the city! Students will be taken on a tour around downtown Ottawa, for a chance to visit new spots and get to know more of this beautiful city you will call home for the next years. Some highlights of the places students will see are Parliament Hill and ByWard Market! In this tour students will be guided by Mariana and Danielle, along with some ISSO volunteers, to learn some facts about the city and take photos.

Location: Students and volunteers will meet at the bus stop and go together to downtown Ottawa.
