Deanna Whelan

Professor, Department of Psychology

Dr. Deanna Whalen is an Instructor in the
Department of Psychology at Carleton
University, where she teaches statistical and
methodological courses to students at both
the undergraduate and graduate levels.

She is passionate about teaching and always
learning about new teaching methodologies,
techniques, and technologies to incorporate
into her classrooms and in the course
evaluation process.

Inspired by her students, her research is
currently focused on the psychological
concepts of grit, persistence, and mental
toughness — specifically, how we can design
university courses to strengthen these traits in
students, in hopes of helping them flourish
and realize their full potentials.
