Learn more about the Psychology Program
Psychologists study the mechanisms that underlie our thoughts, emotions and behaviours. They examine a diverse range of topics, such as how we think and learn, how we interact with others and how we can promote healthy development and wellness. This is accomplished by conducting research so that the knowledge gained can help us to better understand the human mind, enhance well-being and performance and generate additional research questions. All of our undergraduate Psychology programs provide opportunities to explore psychology’s major areas within the context of an active and diverse research environment.
Other ways to study the mind
The human mind is complex, and understanding how it works requires perspectives from many fields of study: Psychology, Cognitive Science, Philosophy, Linguistics and more. Explore our programs to see how they offer different ways of understanding our minds, ourselves and others.

Cognitive Science
Cognitive Science involves the study of cognition, perception and emotion from a wide range of perspectives. Despite the many different methodologies they use, cognitive scientists are united in their interest in the mind — and the brain.

Philosophy
Gain the ability to assess ideas and appreciate multiple perspectives. Develop intellectual curiosity, flexibility and learn to think creatively and critically. You’ll study moral, social and political philosophy; philosophy of mind, cognitive science, language and knowledge and more.
Study language as it relates to the mind

Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies
Language is an essential part of what it is to be human and this program gives you the opportunity to examine how language works in real life. The field of Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies develops and applies theories to solve everyday problems involving language.

Linguistics
Linguistics is the scientific study of one of the most fundamental aspects of being human: using language to communicate. Explore what it means to know a language, how we process and produce language, language structure, how children acquire language, variation and diversity in languages across the globe, how languages change over time and more.

Psycholinguistics and Communication Differences
Explore clinical and experimental areas of linguistics as they apply to first language acquisition, speech-language differences and disabilities, how language is represented and processed in the brain, the range of linguistic variation and biological and evolutionary aspects of language.
