The Pauline Jewett Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies invites applications for a preliminary
(tenure-track)/tenured position in the Institute at the rank of Associate Professor, to commence
July 1, 2018.
We seek applicants with strong and broad backgrounds in critical theory and analysis whose scholarship
bridges one or more of the following: Disability Studies, Critical Race Theory, Sexuality Studies, and
Transnational Feminism. The successful candidate will play a leading role in the development of a new,
innovative program designed to introduce Critical Diversity Studies as a major Institute component.
About the Academic Unit:
The Pauline Jewett Institute of Women’s and Gender Studies was established in 1987. For the past 30
years, the Institute has fostered research and study, sponsored workshops and speakers, and promoted
discussion and debate on a diversity of issues related to gender, race, sexuality, disability, class, and
other axes of difference and identity. Our programs of study include BA (Honours), BA, and MA degrees.
We also offer a Post-baccalaureate Diploma. The Institute is committed to achieving the highest
standards of excellence in our teaching, research and scholarship. We work to encourage engaged,
intersectional thought from diverse perspectives.
Qualifications:
Due to the open-ended nature of the hire, we are interested in candidates whose focus has been on
interrogating hierarchy, inequality, equity, exclusion, inclusion, belonging, identity and identification.
Candidates will have a doctorate, a record of high-quality scholarly research leading to peer assessed
publications, and demonstrated excellence in teaching at both the graduate and the undergraduate
levels. Evidence of an ability to work in an interdisciplinary, collaborative environment, program
development experience, and the administrative skills required to direct an innovative program are a
priority. Areas of teaching will be determined based on the areas of expertise held by the successful
candidate.
