A lot of multi tasking and follow up emails with the US as we work closely with our Product Development Scientists and Project Managers based in the US. Some project meetings but my days aren’t usually filled with meetings like some of my other colleagues. With many on going projects, learning to prioritize and staying organized is very important.
My future goals are…
Taking the knowledge and experience that I have gained working in Regulatory, I’m looking to work in the Sports Nutrition industry.
My degree has helped me get to where I am today by…
Providing an educational background in Food Science and Nutrition to be used as leverage to entering the health and nutrition industry. Although through my years working in industry, you learn as you go and from your mistakes (we’re human, we all make
mistakes). Many times you’ll have no idea what to do but eventually you’ll figure things out.
My advice for current students is…
Start somewhere, anywhere!! Experience is key especially right after graduating. Networking is very, very important. Start following companies and people on LinkedIn and Twitter. Reach out to people if you can, and don’t be discouraged if you get no replies or are left on “Read”, there are people out there that are willing to help and answer questions. After graduating I was having difficulty finding opportunities in Ottawa particularly in the food and nutrition industry. It took some time but I would literally, every day spend a few hours googling what’s out there, then emailing companies. Which I was lucky enough to find a small food manufacturing company in Ottawa whom I emailed and was offered a position as a Quality Control Technologist.
