A typical day at work looks like…
As an analytical development chemist, a typical day involves assistance in the development of new pharmaceutical dosage forms in addition to improving existing products and procedures. Working with other scientists to conduct chemical and physical laboratory tests on raw materials and R&D samples: in-process, finished product, stability, pre-formulation, etc., and reports the test results. As well as, daily set up and trouble shooting laboratory equipment and instrumentation required for tests.
My future goals are…
To continue to grow with Biolab Pharma Canada, and reach my full potential within the pharmaceutical field. If time and circumstance allow, continuing my education is also a possibility.
My degree has helped me get to where I am today by…
My academic career has lent relevant hands on experience and practical skills needed in product development. The knowledge and experience of analytical chemistry by successfully operating analytical instrumentation such as HPLC, UV/Vis, and GC all started with Carleton. With time, the tools I have been given allow me to understanding of the principles used in risk based assessment tools, quality by design, method validation, equipment troubleshooting and technical transfer.
My advice for current students is…
Find a balance between studies and social life. It really is important to keep in mind why you are at school and what your goals are. However, it is equally important to embrace new opportunities and create new memories.
