Honours Field Camp. We will be offering an on-line version of the third-year Honours field camp. The design of this course has yet to be finalized. However, you will be able to take this course remotely with courses held on-line through the course cuLearn site.

Fourth-year Practicum. In normal times, practicums consist of in-office or in-laboratory opportunities that provide students with a real-world professional experience and we are hoping that students will be able to secure such opportunities during the upcoming academic year. However, these opportunities may not be easily available this summer and fall or even winter. Furthermore, even if there is partial re-opening of society, we recognize that there will be students who will be uncomfortable volunteering at an office for health or other reasons. We, therefore, will be recognizing alternatives to the practicum so you can complete your degree.

We still hope that these alternatives will be experiential based. For example, we will be ready to recognize consultant-format opportunities wherein a student conducts an applied analyses or applied GIS projects for a specific organization, government, or private sector sponsor. You are still encouraged to seek out such opportunities on your own, but you are welcome to contact us for guidance or assistance. If you live outside of Ottawa, you are encouraged to seek out opportunities with local organizations, government institutions and private companies. Then follow the steps outlined in the Student InfoPak.

What is important to note at this time is that you need not be concerned about the practicum component of your degree. We will be introducing flexibility to ensure that you complete your degree and graduate.

If you have any questions about the field camp or practicum, or you have a possible placement opportunity, please contact John Milton, who is responsible both these courses. He will provide you with guidance and support both throughout the summer and into the fall and winter semesters.
