Professor D. R. Fraser Taylor is very pleased to announce the publication of the latest book in the Elsevier Modern Cartography Series, entitled “Mapping the Epidemic – A Systemic Geography of COVID-19 in Italy”, edited by Emanuela Casti with Fulvio Adobati and Ilia Negri. Professor Taylor, Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, Killam Prize Winner 2014, Chancellor’s Distinguished Research Professor, International Affairs, Geography and Environmental Studies and Director, Geomatics and Cartographic Research Centre, Department of Geography and Environmental Studies, Carleton University, also serves as the Elsevier Modern Cartography Series Editor.

He notes that this book is very well laid out and richly illustrated, and that the reflexive digital maps complement the excellent content – content of particular import with respect to an evolving pandemic of critical importance in this age of global connection.

Professor Taylor congratulates Professor Casti and her team, as well as the Elsevier colleagues, on a first-class piece of work. Professor Casti edited a book entitled Reflexive Cartography A New Perspective on Mapping for the Series in 2015.

Professor Taylor’s Preface for the book is included as a quick introduction to this very impressive and timely publication.
