Mikayla Lochbihler was awarded the Canadian Association of Geographers – Feminist Intersectional Solidarity Group (CAG-FIGS) Undergraduate Student Paper award for 2023-2024. Mikayla Lochbihler (she/they) is a recent graduate of Carleton University, having completed an undergraduate degree in urban geography with a minor in community engagement. Complimenting her education is her professional experience as a City of Ottawa employee at numerous downtown community centres. Her decade-long residency in downtown Ottawa has ignited her passion for community-engaged research, which she uses address the relevant needs and concerns of residents. Her areas of expertise include an intersectional approach to issues of urban inequity, with an emphasis on care-based services, affordable housing, and accessible public transit. As a queer woman who has navigated the challenges of urban housing precarity and access to mental healthcare, these issues are particularly close to her heart, and it is her goal in life to make cities more caring and accessible for all.
Congratulations Mikayla!
