On March 25, Carleton University’s Graduate Studies hosted its annual Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition, where graduate students are challenged to present their research in a compelling and accessible format in under three minutes.

We are proud to congratulate DGES graduate students Sarah Lavallée and Josie Mallett for presenting at the 3MT. Special mention goes to Josie Mallett on earning 3rd place at this year’s competition.

Sarah Lavallée, Geography master’s of arts student: “Heckled for being weed eaters: Re-claiming cultural roots through urban foraging.

Third Place: Josie Mallett, Geography master’s of science student. Marsh troubles and methane bubbles: Methane emissions in restored wetlands.”

The 3MT competition showcases the depth and diversity of graduate research at Carleton while strengthening students’ ability to communicate complex ideas to a broad audience. Sarah and Josie’s achievement reflects both the excellence of their research and their ability to engage and inform beyond academic circles.

Congratulations to both Sarah and Josie on their outstanding presentations!
