Pursuant to Article 16.3 of the CUPE 4600 Unit 2 Collective Agreement, subject to Article 16.2 and 16.4 through 16.7, applications are invited from members of the CUPE 4600 bargaining unit and other interested persons to teach the following courses in the Department of Health Sciences during the Winter 2025 term:

Course description: An overview of the history of medicine, it’s relationship to society, medical terminology, introduction to organ systems, diseases and their diagnoses, current events in health and medicine.
Candidates should be proficient in the English language and have particular research or employment experience in the broad area of health. Candidates should demonstrate sufficient scholarly background and expertise to competently teach the biological, biomedical, cultural, environmental, psychological and social fundamentals of health. The successful candidate will be expected to work closely with the Departmental Chair. Priority will be given to candidates holding a PhD or M.D. and having a relevant teaching experience at the university level.

Course description: The health conditions of Indigenous peoples in different regions of the world; social and biological factors that contribute to greater risk and poor health; strategies of Indigenous peoples to restore health to their peoples.

Candidates should demonstrate sufficient scholarly background and expertise to competently teach the fundamentals of indigenous health both in the context of Canada as well as globally. Priority will be given to candidates holding a PhD and relevant teaching experience at the university level.

Course description: The history of Canada’s health care system. The model of financing and intergovernmental responsibilities. Current and emerging policy debates facing our health care system, and the role of scientific evidence in decision-making and policy development.

Candidates should demonstrate sufficient scholarly background and expertise to competently teach about the Canadian health care system and related policy issues. Priority will be given to candidates holding a PhD and relevant teaching experience at the university level.

Course description: Congenital and acquired disabilities related to sensory organs and processes, including visual and hearing impairments, vestibular and balance disorders, reflex problems, and others. Interdisciplinary approach to causes, mechanisms, accessibility, accommodations and interventions.

Candidates should demonstrate sufficient scholarly background and expertise to competently teach biological, biomedical and psychosocial determinants of diseases and disabilities related to sensory processes and movement. Priority will be given to candidates holding a PhD and relevant teaching experience at the graduate university level.

Course description: The application of knowledge translation in the formulation of policy and the development of skills required to maximize the impact of scientific findings through real world programs and policies and communication skills for diverse audiences.

Candidates should demonstrate sufficient scholarly background and expertise to competently teach concepts of knowledge translation, in particular in the health care setting. Priority will be given to candidates holding a PhD and relevant teaching experience at the graduate university level.

Course description: Introduction to epidemiologic concepts and methods. Different types of epidemiological study designs. Fundamental concepts of: definitions and measures of disease frequency and effects, causality, bias, sample size, confounding and interaction.

Candidates should demonstrate sufficient scholarly background and expertise to competently teach epidemiological concepts, and procedures used in the analysis and interpretation of scientific data generated in the health or biomedical sciences. Priority will be given to candidates holding a PhD and relevant teaching experience at the graduate university level.
