Letter of Employment
A Letter of Employment is requested for proof of employment while still actively working. Our standard letters contain the following:
- Position/Title
- Employment Status (Continuous/Casual)
- Annual Salary
- Hire and End Dates
If you need additional information to be included, please be sure to put your request in the “Comments” section of the request form. If you are requesting the inclusion of duties in your letter please send us your supervisor’s name so we can reach out to verify your job description.
How do I get a Letter of Employment?
Continuing Employees
Continuing staff members at Carleton University can now generate their own Letter of Employment directly through Carleton Central.
To access your letter:
- Log in to Carleton Central.
- Navigate to the Employee Services tab.
- Click on the Employment Letter link.
This self-service feature is available to continuing staff members, which typically includes employees with ongoing appointments (not casual or temporary roles). The letter includes key employment details such as your current job title, department, annual salary, and employment status.
Casual Employees
To request a Letter of Employment, please send an email to payroll@carleton.ca with the subject ‘Letter of Employment Request’. Please include your Banner Employee/Student ID in your email.
Please also confirm which content options are requested:
- Position/Title
- Employment Status (Continuous/Casual)
- Annual Salary/Hourly Rate
- Total Hours
- Hire and End Dates

Any active or former employee can request a letter of employment.
If you will be working at Carleton University in the future, please note that a letter cannot be prepared until your position is set up in our system. If you have any questions, please contact Human Resources.
