In advance of the High Commissioner’s Dialogue on Protection and Solutions in December 2026, the goal of this event is to foster a dialogue on the examine the benefits and barriers to meaningful refugee participation. The event will include reflections from Advisors with the Refugee Advisory Network of Canada (RAN Canada), a report from the outcomes of the LERRN Institute in Brazil in September 2026, and the experience of refugee-led organizations (RLOs) in Brazil. One of the objectives of the 2026 High Commissioner’s Dialogue is to help advance the “meaningful participation of all forcibly displaced and stateless people, engaging them in the decisions that affect their lives and supporting their capacity to identify, mitigate and address protection risks, including through direct support to refugee-led organizations, and to seek their own solutions.” In response to this objective, the event will reflect on the experience of refugee participation across contexts, highlighting the benefits of meaningful participation, identifying the barriers to participation, and considering solutions from recent practice that can be shared globally to advance the practice of meaningful participation across context.
