Sarah Lavergne (she/her) is a PhD student at Carleton University in the Department of Political Science. Her research interests include the politics of resistance, Critical Gender Theory, and expressions of agency in contexts of protracted displacement. She is particularly interested in Karen women in the Thai border-camps and their engagement in place-making. Her major research paper, completed during her master’s degree in political science at Carleton University under the supervision of Dr. James Milner, combined these interests and was titled (Dis)Empowerment in Displacement: Comparing the Experiences of Refugee Women in Bangladesh and Thailand.
Presently, Sarah is part of the LERRN Working Group on Methodology wherein she is designing a graduate level course pertaining to qualitative methods and creating sister workshop that will be globally accessible. She is also a co-editor on an upcoming edited collection with Dr. Nimo Bokore and Dr. Phil Orchard revolving around themes of collaborative research, co-productions of knowledge, and the dismantling of hierarchies in academia.
