The Language Learning Resource Centre fielded two teams for CUSA’s International Soccer Tournament held October 16th in the Field House.

Fire and Flow were made up of students from Carleton’s academic ESL program and featured players from around the world.

“I really enjoyed participating in the CUSA International Soccer Tournament! It was an amazing experience that brought students from different countries together. I met so many new people and felt a great sense of community. What surprised me most was how supportive everyone was, no matter which team they played for. I would definitely encourage other ESLA students to join events like this — it’s a great way to practice English, make friends, and have fun!”

Classmates and ESLA instructor Julie McCarroll stopped by to cheer the teams on.

Originally envisioned as a small round-robin series between university clubs and academic units with international mandates, the afternoon event ballooned at the last minute into a larger happening involving more than ten teams.  As a result, players joined with other teams to even out the numbers.  In the photo above we see Fire and Flow joined by members of the CU Filipino Students’ Association and individual entries.
