About

Hello everyone! My name is Margo, and I’m a second-year sociology student here at Carleton… now with a minor in Spanish!

My love for Spanish began after listening to a song, and it has only continued to grow since then. From singing in Spanish to exploring new cultures and picking up random bits of linguistic knowledge, language learning has enriched my life beyond words.

Learning a language has fostered a new type of cultural understanding that I had previously never thought possible. The way I see and interact with the world has been profoundly altered for the better. I now feel more ready and capable to engage with others and create friendships, which has been a great experience 🙂

As I reach the one-year mark in my learning journey, I would like to thank the wonderful team of students, professors, and facilitators here in the LLRC. I am incredibly grateful for your support, and I am excited to continue learning with you all!

And if you, reading this, have even the slightest interest in learning a language, come check us out!

Why do you think it’s important to study a language?

Learning a language is an incredibly interesting and challenging (in a good way!) endevour that has shaped the way I see the world. in my case, learning Spanish has allowed me to explore other facets of my personality and connect with people in new and exciting ways!

Any surprises?

The vast linguistic diversity within the Spanish language has been a huge point of fascination for me.
