ASL TA

Language(s): English, American Sign Language, Spanish, French

Hi, I’m Morgan!

I am an Master of Arts student in Applied Linguistics and Discourse Studies (which I also did my BA in!) and I’m a Teaching Assistant for the American Sign Language program.

I’m currently writing my thesis on the language of Ontario public universities’ sexual violence policies. I’m exploring how sexual violence is portrayed in these documents and how agency and responsibility are emphasized or obscured. Ultimately, I hope to contribute to the development of more effective and supportive sexual violence policies at post-secondary institutions.

In addition to being a TA, I work as a research assistant for two professors in my department and as a student research analyst at the National Capital Commission (NCC). Outside of school, I like to run, read, and play video games.

I minored in ASL in my undergrad and I have been a TA for ASL throughout my MA. This semester, I’m taking on a program-support role, where I help with program promotion, resource/material development and collection, and other projects. I know a bit of Spanish and French – I also minored in Spanish during my BA and did a 10-week summer internship in Madrid, Spain, and I sometimes use French at my research analyst job, but I am definitely not fluent in either language.
