About
My name is Shamira, and I’m currently in my second year of Global & International Studies with a specialization in Global Law & Social Justice. As a BGInS student, I decided to take Spanish for my language requirement because I’ve always loved the flow of the language and wanted to learn how to speak it.
Throughout my life, I’ve always had a strong passion for travelling and exploring different countries and cultures, as I really enjoy learning more about diverse cultural traditions and perspectives. From a young age, Hispanic culture has especially intrigued me, so when I had the opportunity I definitely wanted to try and learn to speak the beautiful language.
Why do you think it’s important to study a language?
Pushing myself to learn a new language has been a great learning experience for me, as it’s been challenging but rewarding! Being able to speak a language I’ve always admired, while meeting other students who are eager to learn for similar-or completely different-reasons has made my experience really enjoyable. I think it could be a meaningful opportunity for anyone thinking about giving it a try! 🙂
Any surprises?
One thing that surprised me about learning Spanish was how much I also learned about Latin American culture and history, beyond just learning to speak the language.
