Jean PengGrowing up in Toronto, Jean Peng first came to Ottawa on a field trip with her high-school concert band. Her appreciation of the arts led her back to Ottawa in 2019 for a Bachelor of Arts in Film Studies (Honours) at Carleton University, where she graduated in 2023.

Jean’s interest in volunteering started in high school, as a piano teacher, helping others to learn music. In her first year of university, Jean volunteered with the Carleton University Students’ Association’s (CUSA) Foot Patrol service centre.

Three years later, Jean first heard of the Master of Philanthropy and Nonprofit Leadership (MPNL) program while contributing to the CUSA Unified Support Centre as a volunteer leader. She knew she had to apply and was thrilled to receive her offer.

Jean looks forward to offering a unique, film-oriented perspective while learning more about managing and financing philanthropic initiatives. She intends to apply her skills to a future career in housing- or food-related support.

On the personal side, Jean developed a passion for adrenaline-inducing activities, such as rafting, gliding and skydiving.
