Keith Sjögren, Chair of the Advisory Council

Keith Sjögren is a former Managing Director at Investor Economics, a leading provider of research and advisory services to the financial services industry in Canada. In his role, Keith was responsible for identifying and managing consulting and research engagements with a range of financial institutions and businesses. He retired at the end of 2021.

Prior to joining the consulting profession in 1995, Keith held a number of executive positions at CIBC, including Senior Vice President, Private Banking & Trust, and President, CIBC Securities. His banking career spanned retail banking, wealth management and international banking. He has lived and worked in the US, Iran, the UK, and Singapore.

Educated at Carleton University, in Ottawa, and the University of Toronto, Keith is a Fellow of the Institute of Canadian Bankers and holds the Partners, Directors, and Officers qualification of the Canadian Securities Institute. He’s served on the SEAC committee of the Ontario Securities Commission.

Keith is the Chair of the Advisory Council to the MPNL program at Carleton University, a current member and former Chair of the Investment Committee of the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health Foundation, and member of a working group of the Canadian Association of Gift Planners responsible for the development of guidelines for the donor-advised fund sector.

He also recently served on the Campaign Cabinet of the Haliburton Highlands Health Services Foundation and continues to be an advisor to that foundation. A former member of the Board of Directors and Emeritus Council of the Canadian Opera Company Canada, Keith and his wife, Dorothy, are also supporters of the National Ballet of Canada and members of the Stratford Festival.

Keith is the author of a number of major reports and papers on issues such as Women and Philanthropy; Donor-advised Funds in Canada; Donor-advised Funds and Impact Investments; and the management of charitable sector investment assets.
