Dr. Rahman worked in the Canadian government at the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) (now part of Global Affairs Canada (GAC)) during 1992 -2013 in various positions such as the Executive Director of the Development Finance Innovation Working Group, Executive Director of the Strategic and Operating Review of the Agency, Regional Director General for Asia, Associate Vice-President of Policy and Director of the Evaluation, Monitoring and Results-Based Management Group. Prior to working at CIDA, he worked as a senior researcher at the Economic Council of Canada and the Conference Board of Canada. He was a member of the Leadership Council at the Institute for the Study of International Development (ISID) at McGill University, Montreal, Canada during 2013-2016 and a Senior Fellow and Visiting Professor at the School of International Development and Global Studies (SIDGS) at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada during 2014- July 2022 .
