2026 School of Nursing Fall Academic Orientation
On September 8, the Carleton University School of Nursing welcomed a new group of first-year nursing students for Fall Orientation. The day gave students a chance to meet faculty and staff, learn more about the School of Nursing, and begin getting familiar with the community they will be part of over the next few years.
The morning started with students visiting the School of Nursing office to pick up their Nursing Bags. The bags included items they will use throughout their studies, including in skills training and clinical learning. For many students, it was one of the first moments that made the start of nursing school feel real.
Students also had the chance to meet some of the faculty, staff, and classmates they will be working with throughout their program.
In the afternoon, students took part in Academic Orientation. Faculty and staff from different areas of the School of Nursing introduced themselves and spoke about the resources, services, and support available to students.
School of Nursing Director Danielle welcomed the new cohort and introduced students to how the School operates and what they can expect during their studies. Staff from Operations, Clinical, Simulation, and student support services also shared information about their roles and how they support students throughout the program.
The session also included time for questions, giving students a chance to learn more about their courses, clinical experiences, and the support available to them as they begin their first year.
After Academic Orientation, students gathered at Oxbow Park for their first group photo as a nursing cohort. It was a simple moment, but one that marked the beginning of their time together at Carleton.
The day continued with the Stethoscope Ceremony. Students handed their stethoscopes to faculty members, who then placed them around their necks. The ceremony marked an important moment for the new students and symbolized one of their first steps into the nursing profession.
For the new cohort, September 8 marked the beginning of a new chapter. From receiving their Nursing Bags and meeting the people who will support them, to putting on their stethoscopes for the first time, the day offered a first look at the experiences that will shape their time in the program.
Their arrival also marks another year of growth for the Carleton University School of Nursing and reflects its continued commitment to supporting and preparing the next generation of nurses.
